Cross Party Groups on Skills and Scotland’s Universities and Colleges
On the 26 June 2012 Adopt an Intern's Joy Lewis attended a meeting at Edinburgh University to discuss the problems and questions surrounding graduate employment. The event was organised by Cross Party Groups on Skills and Scotland’s Universities and Colleges. It was hosted by Alastair Sim, Director of Universities Scotland, Liz Smith, MSP, and John Park MSP.
The overarching theme of the meeting was whether the responsibility for graduate employment lies with graduates, universities or employers. Participants were split into groups and given specific questions to discuss.
Topics included how to prepare graduates for the world of work, the need for universities to provide information, advice and guidance to their students, and the growing demand for graduate level work placements and internships.
Participants discussed these issues and then related their findings back for wider discussion. Adopt an Intern hopes to update site users on the outcomes of this event.
