We are delighted to invite you to the Angus Millar Lecture, which will be delivered by Professor Guy Standing. Professor Standing will explore the concept of Basic Income, particularly in relation to Scotland, which has gone from being a fringe political concept to one being discussed and piloted around the world.
For further details about the RSA's work to date on Basic Income, please check out theproject page, which contains a link to our report and other writing on the subject.
Guy Standing is Professor of Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and a founder member and honorary co-president of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN), a non-governmental organisation that promotes a citizenship income for all.
Angus Millar was a Scottish financier who was Senior Partner of Baillie Gifford from 1984 - 1989. He was involved in many Scottish enterprises and cultural organisations including The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland, Edinburgh College of Art, and Hopetoun House Preservation Trust. He became a Fellow of the RSA in 1980. In 1997 his family endowed the Angus Millar Lectures in his memory. The lecture is held annually and covers topics of contemporary relevance to Scotland with the purpose of stimulating discussion, developing ideas and encouraging action in accordance with the aims of the RSA.
Further details will be confirmed in due course, but please register your interest for what promises to be a timely and provocative event.
