Internship Programme

"My experience as an intern for the Centre for Scottish Public Policy helped me hone my analytical, argumentative and writing skills, and improved my understanding of contemporary policy debates and knowledge of goings-on in the Scottish political scene. I would whole-heartedly recommend an internship in the Centre for anyone considering a future in politics or in public policy.”

Daniel Wylie, 2007 Intern, now works in the European Parliament with the Greens/European Free Alliance.

"I have nothing but positive things to say about my time working with the CSPP. What struck me most about my time was the depth of the exposure I received to many of the facets of Scottish politics. The Centre provided me with opportunities to interact with members of the Scottish, European and UK Parliaments. I highly recommend that any student take advantage of this opportunity.”

Jason Antrican, 2007/08 Intern, is now studying at the University of Virginia School of Law.

We have been offering diverse internships since our inception as a think tank in 1999 and have attracted students/graduates from across Scotland and the UK. What differentiates our programme from other similar organisations is simple: we reject orthodox placements where interns are given mundane and laborious administrative based tasks.

Instead, we beleive in empowering interns by offering placements that are innovative and often peer-led where interns are expected to contribute - through research, debate and event management in a chosen policy area - to the open and relaxed policy making environment we have created.

It is a unique programme that allows interns to cultivate their research interests, complement their academic knowledge with first hand policy-making experience and begin to build those precious networks. And what’s more, you will be not only mentored with our close knit team but by a carefully chosen director who more often than not recognised experts in their field.

Recently, we were delighted to announce that every academic term two students from the University of Glasgow's Faculty of Law, Business & Social Science will obtain an internship with the Centre, a partnership formed and faciliated by the Aiming University Learning @ Work Project.

What’s in it for me?

There is no other internship programme in Scotland that provides such a diverse portfolio of interests. Period. Interns will obtain practical political experience and knowledge of how Scottish politics functions which will allow you to decide if a career in politics is for you. And in the current economic conditions it is placements like these that can be the difference between future success or failure.

Presently we are unable to remunerate interns but will offer expenses. Also, note that we are currnetly not recruiting.
