The Sunday Herald reported on the up-coming budget vote and the overall economic conditions. 

 

Funding the new Forth Cross by PPP/PFI “would likely increase the cost of the project from £2.3 billion to £4 billion” claims the Sunday Herald. On a similar note, the Scotland on Sunday writes that the conflict between the UK and Scottish Govt intensifies over the crossing, while Kenny Farquharson criticised both Governments for their handling of the crisis. 

 

Iain MacWhirter in the Sunday Herald reports on the increasing amount of New Labour voices calling for the nationalization of the banks. 

 

Research conducted for the Sunday Times claims that “public spending in [Scotland] will soon rise to the equivalent of almost 70% of GDP”.  

 

 

Energy and Environment  

 

Rob Edwards in the Sunday Herald writes that plans to build a new coal-fired power station in Scotland are criticised by environmentalists, experts and Danish politicians.  

 

 

Europe
