Graduate Jobs
According to new research, more than a third of new graduate jobs are taken by interns.
A report from High Fliers Research has underscored the critical importance of internships by finding that a third of new jobs for graduates are taken by those who already have work experience with that employer. This report is published annually and features more than 17,000 final year students. Other key findings include:
- Leading employers in the UK are expecting to increase their graduate recruitment by 9.4% in 2011. Vacancies dropped by 17.8% in 2009 and 6.7% in 2008.
- Despite a rise in the number of vacancies in 2011, a third of the positions will only be open to those who have previously worked for the organisation (internship, placement etc)."Nearly two-thirds of recruiters warn graduates who have had no previous work experience at all are unlikely to be successful during the selection process and have little or no chance of receiving a job offer for their organisations’ graduate programmes".
- Employers received 45 applications per graduate vacancy in 2010.
