Schools Reform

Education commission to undertake a root and branch review of Scottish schooling.
The Commission on School Reform was launched by ourselves and Reform Scotland to examine whether Scottish schooling is fit for purpose in an increasingly competitive world.
It will be chaired by Keir Bloomer, former President of the Association of Directors of Education and member of the group that wrote Curriculum for Excellence.
The launch received significant media coverage in The Scotsman and The Herald.

I note with interest that the BBC is reporting publication of this report. I note with equal interest my awareness of no institution or individual in Scottish Education approached by the report writers.

It is strange, and certainly not accidental, that Ross Martin should use the term 'bog standard comprehensive' with all its historical resonances. What is the significance of this phrase in the context of the commission? It's hardly a neutral standpoint. I, for one, would welcome a debate on the relevance of the phrase to Scottish schools.
