Improving Education
Ross Martin and Geoff Mawdsley on the work of our Education Commission.
Last week saw a number of news stories on the Commission's work. It began with Ross being interviewed on the BBC which subsequently led to one writer attacking the work of the Commission in The Scotsman under the strapline of: "Bog standard stupidity from reform boffins".
To set the record straight, Ross and Geoff Mawdsley (Reform Scotland) wrote an editorial outlining what the Commission hopes to achieve. Thus, it will:
• Form a fair and objective view of Scotland’s educational performance compared with what is provided elsewhere;
• Consider the challenges that Scottish education is likely to face in the next 50 years and how likely it is to meet them;
• Identify any problems with the current school system in Scotland and try to analyse the root causes of them;
• Develop proposals that will enable young people, whatever their background, to fulfil their potential and meet the unprecedented challenges of the modern world.
A call for evidence has been issued to inform the work of the Commission. Evidence should arrive by no later than Monday 30th April 2012.
Responses should be no more than six sides of A4 in length and be sent, wherever possible, electronically and in Microsoft Word format to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
